Mister Universe (1951–1952)Ross Andru & Mike EspositoLong before making comic book history with The Amazing Spider-Man, Metal Men, and many other titles Ross Andru and Mike Esposito struck out on their own to create Mister Universe.Published during the wild, pre-Comics Code early '50s, this short-lived series follows the world's ultimate pro wrestler as he leaves the ring behind to tackle global trouble. Backed by his bumbling sidekick, Scarcely Able, Mister Universe trades theatrical body slams for real-world punch-ups—taking on mobsters, foreign spies, evil doubles, and Cold War threats across the globe.Packed with Andru’s trademark kinetic energy, exaggerated muscle, and bold action, Mister Universe is a blast of pure vintage fun and a cool, early snapshot of two legends finding their groove. A must have for any fan of Ross Andru's art, seeing his earlier style and how it would evolve to what most fans know him for, his DC Comics and Marvel work.Ross Andru was one of the most prolific and influential pencilers in comic book history, celebrated for his hyper-dynamic staging, mastery of foreshortening, and iconic visual choreography. Often paired with his longtime inking partner Mike Esposito.
